Sleeping rough to raise funds to fight homelessness

On Thursday 18 June, I will spend the longest and coldest night of the year sleeping outdoors, as part of the 2020 Vinnies CEO Sleepout®.

This will be my 6th CEO Sleepout, and with the COVID-19 restrictions, this year will be a little different. Instead of joining other CEOs to sleep rough in one central place, I’ll be roughing it in my backyard. It doesn’t sound quite as challenging, but a sheet of cardboard and sleeping bag will be my only sources of comfort and shelter. The intent doesn’t change – to swap my comfortable bed for one night out in the weather, while raising awareness and much needed funds for some of the most vulnerable in our community. Around the country, many business, government and community leaders will be sleeping out to help make a difference.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused great uncertainty for people around the world and at home. Many face the prospect of falling into homelessness due to job losses and financial insecurity. Already there are more than 116,000 Australians who experience homelessness every night.

This year I am aiming to raise $15,000, with the help of business partners, clients, family, friends and colleagues. If you are able to join in by donating, I would be deeply appreciative.

The funds you help me raise are turned into crisis accommodation, food, healthcare, counselling, education, employment and support to find a permanent home for thousands of people across the country.

Donations are tax deductible and can be processed online: https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/fundraisers/michael-curtin/sydney

I would greatly appreciate your support for this important cause. The Vinnies CEO Sleepout happens for just one night, but it raises vital funds to support people all year round.
